1. Overview

LankaAssist ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your personal and sensitive data when you use the App.

2. Data We May Collect

Identity & Contact Data

  • Email address if you provide it for support or account creation (optional)

Usage Data

  • Crash reports
  • App version, device model, OS version
  • Analytics events to improve the app

Contacts (Optional - With Your Permission)

  • Purpose: Enable QuickDial widget and favorite contacts features
  • What we access: Contact names and phone numbers from your device
  • What we DON'T do: We do not upload your phonebook to our servers or share contacts with third parties
  • Storage: Contacts are accessed locally on your device only when you use QuickDial features
  • Control: You can revoke this permission anytime in your device Settings

Location (Optional - With Your Permission)

  • Purpose: Enable Emergency Share feature
  • What we access: Your GPS coordinates only when you tap "Emergency Share"
  • What we DON'T do: We do not track your location continuously or in the background
  • Storage: Location is shared directly with your chosen contacts and not stored on our servers
  • Control: You can revoke this permission anytime in your device Settings

User-Submitted Content

  • Posts to the Community Info Portal (may include description, location, images)
  • You control the content you post
  • Do not post personal data of others without consent

3. How We Use Data

  • Provide and improve app features (calling, favorites, widgets)
  • Deliver the Emergency Share functionality (share your location with selected contacts)
  • Moderate and manage community posts
  • Troubleshoot, monitor, and debug using crash reports
  • Comply with law or safeguard rights

4. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell personal or sensitive data.

The Application utilizes third-party services that have their own Privacy Policy about handling data:

These service providers process data under our instructions and are contractually bound to protect your data.

We may share information:

  • As required by law (subpoena, legal process)
  • When we believe disclosure is necessary to protect rights, safety, or investigate fraud
  • With trusted service providers who work on our behalf (hosting, analytics, push notifications)

If you choose to back up data to third-party cloud services, we will disclose this and obtain your consent.

5. Data Retention

  • User-submitted content: Retained until you delete it or we remove it for violation of policies
  • Crash logs and analytics: Retained for 12 months to improve service quality
  • Contact access: Not stored on our servers; only accessed locally on your device when you use QuickDial features
  • Location data: Not stored on our servers; transmitted directly to your selected contacts during Emergency Share

6. Security

We use industry standard protections:

  • HTTPS/TLS encryption for data in transit
  • Reasonable technical and organizational measures for data at rest
  • However, no system is 100% secure

7. Permissions

CONTACTS (Optional)

  • Requested when: You enable QuickDial or add favorite contacts
  • Used for: Display contact names and enable one-tap calling
  • Not used for: Uploading to servers, sharing with third parties, or marketing
  • Revoke: Device Settings → Apps → LankaAssist → Permissions

LOCATION (Optional)

  • Requested when: You use Emergency Share feature
  • Used for: Sharing your coordinates with contacts you select
  • Not used for: Background tracking, storing location history, or advertising
  • Revoke: Device Settings → Apps → LankaAssist → Permissions

CAMERA/STORAGE (Optional)

  • Requested when: You attach photos to Community Portal posts
  • Used for: Image selection and upload
  • Revoke: Device Settings → Apps → LankaAssist → Permissions

You can use the App without granting these permissions, but some features will be unavailable.

8. Children

The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete it immediately. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at tech@diyawanna.com.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Request access to your personal data
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to processing of your data
  • Withdraw consent at any time

10. International Transfers

Data may be processed outside your country (for example on cloud servers). We take steps to ensure adequate protections are in place.

11. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes via the App and update this page. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
